This second edition for the season is very late but there is plenty to report having just finished the domestic rowing season and also the Masters season.
We had a large group of Masters competing at the Australian Masters in Perth last week who had great success. The victorious mens Vic eight had several Banks members—Chris Shinners, Jim Lowe, Ion Popa and Simon Wilson and Emergency was Anthony Rixon.
Our young athletes continue to improve. Michelle Yan was having a great season until a back injury stopped her season. The boys are having a great season—See below.
Our welcome goes out to new members— Sam Jeffries, Glyn Edwards, Charlie Risbey, Edward Northrop, Will Smibert, Iain Meyers, Emma Thomason, Joel Bevin, Bea Heath (cox), Amy Little (cox), Henry Hosking, Julia Walker, Mathew Ridgeway, Tim Masters, Sophie Richards, Brittany Jones, Thomas Korobejko
Vale—Geoffrey Owen Harris: Geoff died in February aged 92. He joined BanksRC in 1938 while with the ANZ bank. Geoff served the club as Treasurer and the committee. His time at the club was interrupted by WW2 when Geoff served in the AIF. The highlight of Geoff’s rowing career was as a member of the four comprised of Bob Gamon, Geoff Harris, Hugh Lambie, Alan Jacobsen with W Parry cox and coached by Ray Todd. This crew was unbeaten and won the State Champion Fours in December 1946. This crew formed the basis of the club Senior 8 which came second in the State Championship to Corio Bay. Our thoughts go out to Geoff’s family.
Robyn Murphy and Alistair Eddie have both had stints in hospital and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Our latest Australian Champions—The male Youth squad followed up the Victorian U21 four Championship with the Australian U23 Four Championship at the Nationals
