This first edition for the season is very late which is indicative of the hectic nature of the past months at the club. We head into our 144rd year.
Since the last edition in July, we have completed a full masters season with great results, elected a new committee of management, enhanced our fleet of boats and seen the numbers of young athletes swell as the benefits of our new coaching structure pay off.
Congratulations must go to the members honoured by the naming of boats—Hannah Every—World Champion sculler, Jim Lowe—Olympian, VP and donor to the club, David Orchert—Very successful coach of the ladies youth squad and Greg O’Nians—Three time club Captain.
We welcome some new faces onto the committee this year—Don Gibb, Rod Pilmore, John Manning and Greg O’Nians. The full details of the current committee of management are listed on page 9. Thanks go to the members not continuing on the committee.
We also welcome a new group of young oarsmen (Picture below) into the club joining the men’s youth squad of Nick Lloyd and John Cumper. We have some guns here at the moment...watch this space!
The “Classics” group go from strength to strength under the care and direction of Kevin O’Flaherty. They add the diversity we sorely need. Some recent additions are from the corporate rowing ranks and it was great to see an impromptu BBQ happening on the balcony recently with this younger group.
Lastly, our welcome goes out to recent new members—Alexandra Brown (from Barwon), Felicity Harrison (from Mercs), Peter Landy (Same one we know—back from Qld), Judy Miller, Nicole Dobson, Paul Christensen, Kristine Larson, Deo De Jesus, Ben Coombs, William Webster, Mathew Borchin.
David Ramage has rejoined BanksRC as an active masters athlete after many years away. David was last a member when rowing with our President in the AUS coxless pair at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968.
Our club is becoming a very special and exciting place to be!
